Welcome to RRB Section Controller. We will study Programme Reader 02 — Core Concepts & Vocabulary, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. Preparation framework for railway section controller and related supervisory recruitment pathways. Sign in and use the study header to open your authorised course. Select this published lesson. Start Course Tutor with Auto audio on: it teaches continuously, answers a typed question, then resumes. Begin with the block system, which is how collisions between trains on the same line are prevented. A block section is the length of line between two block stations into which only one train is admitted at a time. A question asks what prevents two trains from occupying the same stretch of single line. The vocabulary answers it: the block system, which admits only one train at a time to a block section, with permission granted by the station ahead only when the line is proved clear. A candidate who knows the phrase block section and the word permission has the answer without any further knowledge. A second question asks the difference between a loop and a siding. A loop connects back to the running line at both ends, so a train can enter it and later rejoin the running line, which is what makes crossings and precedences possible. A siding is for standing or shunting and is not used for through movement. The functional difference, not the physical one, is what matters. A third asks why an unrecorded control instruction is treated as no instruction. Because the control office exists to coordinate people who cannot see one another, and a spoken word that leaves no trace cannot be checked, cannot be passed on accurately at a change of duty, and cannot be examined afterwards if something goes wrong. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? The first mistake is learning signal colours without their meanings. Fix it by writing the indication, meaning what the driver must do, against every aspect. The second is confusing crossing with precedence. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. A second question asks the difference between a loop and a siding. Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. Define a block section. Pause before the answer. The source answer is: the length of line between two block stations into which only one train is admitted at a time. Compare your reasoning as well as the result. If your response differs, return to the worked example and identify the step that needs correction. Explain the key idea in your own words, revisit any mistaken step, then continue to the next lesson. Use Stop to end Course Tutor when you finish.
