How to sit SQE1 in January 2027 — the complete step-by-step route from India

The Solicitors Qualifying Examination is the single route to qualifying as a solicitor of England and Wales. It has two stages. From the January 2027 sitting, SQE1 tests functioning legal knowledge through FLK1 and FLK2, each with 170 single-best-answer questions across two sessions of 85. Subjects are grouped by session under the updated SRA specification, while ethics and professional conduct may be assessed in either session. SQE2 tests practical legal skills. You may sit SQE1 without any prior qualification, but a degree or its equivalent, two years of qualifying work experience and a character and suitability assessment are all required before you can be admitted as a solicitor.

SQE1 January 2027 - limited direct booking for non-reservers: 19 November 2026, 10am to 23 November 2026, 5pm UK time; limited seats; candidates seeking reasonable adjustments must use the pre-booking route.
SQE1 January 2027 - examinable law cut-off: 11 September 2026 (inclusive), as published by the SRA.

Advocates-on-Record Examination — December 2026 re-appearance cycle and AOR route

The Supreme Court's notification dated 25 September 2026 announces a special Advocates-on-Record Examination on 19, 20, 22 and 23 December 2026 at New Delhi. This sitting is not a general first-time AOR examination: it is limited to candidates eligible to re-appear under Regulation 11(i) or 11(ii), arising from the June 2025 result or earlier examinations. The broader AOR qualification route remains governed by Order IV of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013 and the AOR Examination Regulations.

How to sit UGC NET in December 2026 — Law (058) and Criminology (068), step by step

UGC NET decides eligibility for Assistant Professor posts and for the Junior Research Fellowship, and is also accepted as an eligibility route for PhD admission. It is a single computer-based test of two papers taken in one sitting. Paper I is common to all candidates and tests teaching and research aptitude. Paper II is your subject: Law is code 058 and Criminology is code 068.
