Welcome to Allied Health Sciences — Academic Support. We will study Foundation anatomy and physiology: levels of organisation, tissues, body fluids and homeostasis, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. Choose the exact allied-health qualification and admission batch. Year-wise / professional-phase study plans, original foundation workshops, answered practice and available protected LMS readings. Sign in and use the study header to open your authorised course. Select this published lesson. Start Course Tutor with Auto audio on: it teaches continuously, answers a typed question, then resumes. Superior and inferior: towards the head and away from it. Anterior (ventral) and posterior (dorsal): front and back. Medial and lateral: towards and away from the midline. Proximal and distal: nearer to and farther from the attachment of a limb. Superficial and deep: towards and away from the body surface. Example 1 — Directional terms. Describe the wrist relative to the elbow. On the upper limb, closer to the shoulder attachment is proximal, so the wrist is distal to the elbow. Describe the sternum relative to the vertebral column: it is anterior. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? Describing structures from the patient's current posture. Fix: always refer to the anatomical position. Confusing sagittal and coronal planes. Fix: sagittal separates right and left; coronal separates front and back. Calling all muscle voluntary. Fix: only skeletal muscle is voluntary; cardiac and smooth are involuntary. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. On the upper limb, closer to the shoulder attachment is proximal, so the wrist is distal to the elbow. Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. Which epithelium lines the alveoli and why? Pause before the answer. The source answer is: Simple squamous epithelium, because its thinness allows rapid diffusion of gases. Compare your reasoning as well as the result. If your response differs, return to the worked example and identify the step that needs correction. Explain the key idea in your own words, revisit any mistaken step, then continue to the next lesson. Use Stop to end Course Tutor when you finish.

Confirm university, award and admission batchHow the study sessions work
Self-paced reading, tutor-guided explanation and independent practice. These are suggested learning sessions, not a published live faculty timetable. Teacher-led feedback is available only when separately confirmed for your programme.
- Read and recall: Read the selected unit, close the text, and state its main idea and two supporting reasons in your own words.
- Tutor-guided explanation: Ask Course Tutor to explain one specific difficulty and show a worked example. Check citations, calculations and legal/clinical statements against the primary source.
- Apply independently: Attempt a new problem, case analysis, code task or evidence-based essay before opening the model approach.
- Check and correct: Compare your result with the marking criteria. Keep the original answer, correction, reason for the error and one transfer question.
- Review and assess: Revisit the unit in the next study session and at the end of the study block. Combine short recall, application and a cumulative assignment.
Assessment and feedback
Use a short diagnostic, unit practice, a study-block assignment and a cumulative review. Each academic year page includes a worked foundation workshop and answered self-checks; internship sections instead explain institutional requirements.
