Welcome to CAIIB Complete Preparation. We will study Advanced Bank Management: Correlation and Regression for Banking Decisions, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. Preparation support for CAIIB Complete Preparation, using original study notes and tutor explanations. Learners should verify the current IIBF syllabus, eligibility and examination rules before attempting the official exam. Sign in and use the study header to open your authorised course. Select this published lesson. Start Course Tutor with Auto audio on: it teaches continuously, answers a typed question, then resumes. The slopes of these lines are the regression coefficients, written b(yx) and b(xy). Both have the same sign as r, and r is the geometric mean of the two regression coefficients. The two lines intersect at the point of means (x-bar, y-bar). Example 3 — using given coefficients. If b(yx) = 0.8 and b(xy) = 0.45, then r = square root of 0.36 = 0.6, positive because both coefficients are positive. Recheck: 0.8 x 0.45 = 0.36, and 0.6 x 0.6 = 0.36. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? 1. Using the wrong regression line. To estimate y from x, use the regression of y on x, not the other line. Correction: identify the variable being estimated first; it is the dependent variable. 2. Reporting r greater than 1. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. If b(yx) = 0.8 and b(xy) = 0.45, then r = square root of 0.36 = 0.6, positive because both coefficients are positive. Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. Given sum(dx.dy) = 30, sum(dx squared) = 25 and sum(dy squared) = 49, find r. Pause before the answer. The source answer is: r = 30 / square root of (25 x 49) = 30 / 35 = 0.857. Compare your reasoning as well as the result. If your response differs, return to the worked example and identify the step that needs correction. Explain the key idea in your own words, revisit any mistaken step, then continue to the next lesson. Use Stop to end Course Tutor when you finish.
