Welcome to NSQF / NQR Qualification Preparation — Textile. We will study Textile Fibres: Classification, Properties and Identification Tests, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. Training support for current NSQF-aligned qualifications in the Textile sector. The exact qualification, level, occupational standard, practical requirements and awarding body are selected from the current National Qualifications Register before enrolment. Sign in and use the study header to open your authorised course. Select this published lesson. Start Course Tutor with Auto audio on: it teaches continuously, answers a typed question, then resumes. Moisture regain (R) is the weight of water expressed as a percentage of the oven-dry weight. Moisture content (M) is the weight of water expressed as a percentage of the total (wet) weight. Example 2 — Moisture regain. A cotton sample weighs 110.0 g in the conditioned state and 101.4 g after oven-drying. Water = 110.0 − 101.4 = 8.6 g. R = 8.6 / 101.4 times 100 = 8.48 %. M = 8.6 / 110.0 times 100 = 7.82 %. Check using the relation: R = 100 times 7.82 / (100 − 7.82) = 782 / 92.18 = 8.48 %. Both methods agree. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? 1. Dividing by the wet weight when asked for regain. Regain is always on the oven-dry weight. Correction: write "R uses D" at the top of the working. 2. Calling viscose a synthetic fibre. Viscose is regenerated from natural cellulose. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. R = 8.6 / 101.4 times 100 = 8.48 %. M = 8.6 / 110.0 times 100 = 7.82 %. Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. A fibre melts, shrinks from the flame and leaves a hard bead. Which group does it belong to? Pause before the answer. The source answer is: The thermoplastic synthetic group, such as polyester or nylon. Compare your reasoning as well as the result. If your response differs, return to the worked example and identify the step that needs correction. Explain the key idea in your own words, revisit any mistaken step, then continue to the next lesson. Use Stop to end Course Tutor when you finish.
