Welcome to Prep / School Readiness Programme. We will study Reading readiness, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. School-readiness pathway for learners transitioning into Grade 1, integrating language, numeracy, routines, attention and independent classroom habits. Sign in and use the study header to open your authorised course. Select this published lesson. Start Course Tutor with Auto audio on: it teaches continuously, answers a typed question, then resumes. Keep your board, session and medium selected. By the end of this unit the child will hear and blend the sounds of a short word into the whole word, break a spoken word into its sounds, give the sound for most letters met, read simple three-letter words by sounding them out, recognise a small set of very common words on sight, read a short sentence and say what it means, follow print from left to right, use the picture and the sense of the sentence to work out a hard word, re-read when something has not made sense, and choose a book and look at it alone with interest. For the first four minutes, play robot talk. Six instructions from you with a key word in separate sounds, then three words spoken back to you in robot by the child. For the next three minutes, do sound boxes on the slate for three words, with a cap pushed in for each sound and then the letters written in together. For three minutes after that, build two words with letter cards, sweeping a finger under each, then play change one letter twice. For the next four minutes, do shared reading from a simple book. You read most of it and the child reads what they can. When a word is hard, prompt with the three checks in order, then supply it after a few seconds rather than letting the child struggle. For two minutes, ask about meaning. Who was in it, what happened, why. For the last four minutes, put the reading away and read aloud to the child from something more interesting than anything they can manage alone. Close with your usual closing line. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. For three minutes after that, build two words with letter cards, sweeping a finger under each, then play change one letter twice. Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. Say a three-sound word broken into its separate sounds and ask what word it is. Pause before the answer. Use these source criteria: A confident response is the whole word returned smoothly within a second or two. Compare your reasoning as well as the result. If your response differs, return to the worked example and identify the step that needs correction. Explain the key idea in your own words, revisit any mistaken step, then continue to the next lesson. Use Stop to end Course Tutor when you finish.
