Welcome to APO / APP / ADA / ADPO Foundation. We will study Programme Reader 01 — The Public Prosecutor in India: Posts, Appointment and Role, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. Prosecution-service recruitment preparation: BNS, BNSS and BSA, relevant older laws, constitutional safeguards and notification-specific state study paths. Not a Civil Judge or judicial-service examination course. Sign in and use the study header to open your authorised course. Select this published lesson. Start Course Tutor with Auto audio on: it teaches continuously, answers a typed question, then resumes. Section 18 BNSS (old s.24 CrPC) — Public Prosecutors. The Central and State Governments appoint Public Prosecutors for the High Court and for districts, and may appoint Special Public Prosecutors for a case or class of cases. Example 1 — Investigating officer as prosecutor. In a theft case in a Magistrate's court, no APP is present on the date of evidence. The Sub-Inspector who investigated the case offers to examine the witnesses. Can he? Reasoning: Section 19 BNSS bars a police officer who took part in the investigation from being appointed to conduct the prosecution in that case. The purpose is to keep an independent mind between the investigation and the court. Answer: No. The court should adjourn or ensure an APP or another properly appointed person conducts the case. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? Mistake: Quoting only CrPC section numbers. Fix: Learn BNSS numbers first (18, 19, 20) and keep CrPC numbers as a history column. Mistake: Believing the prosecutor must obtain a conviction. Fix: Remember the minister-of-justice principle and Shiv Kumar v. Hukam Chand. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. Can he? Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. What does section 20 BNSS establish? Pause before the answer. The source answer is: A Directorate of Prosecution in the State, with a Director and Deputy and Assistant Directors. Compare your reasoning as well as the result. If your response differs, return to the worked example and identify the step that needs correction. Explain the key idea in your own words, revisit any mistaken step, then continue to the next lesson. Use Stop to end Course Tutor when you finish.

Prosecution-service recruitment preparation

One Foundation programme. A clear prosecution pathway.

APO, APP, ADA and ADPO are different recruitment designations, not four papers of one national examination. Start with the common legal foundation, then use the included state workbooks to match your exact notification. Police investigate, prosecutors present the prosecution and courts decide; these functions must not be confused.

The professional aim is a fair, evidence-based presentation—not a conviction at any cost. Your exercises must address adverse material, missing proof and the strongest defence point.

APO

Assistant Prosecution Officer

सहायक अभियोजन अधिकारी

Use the exact designation in the recruiting authority's notice; names can vary by state.

APP

Assistant Public Prosecutor

सहायक लोक अभियोजक

Preparation for the notified public-prosecutor role, not appointment as a judge.

ADA

Assistant District Attorney

सहायक जिला न्यायवादी

The notified work and syllabus may extend to civil cases and government legal advice.

ADPO

Assistant District Prosecution Officer

सहायक जिला अभियोजन अधिकारी

ADPO is the designation used by this course; it is not labelled ATPO.

Subject-wise curriculum and learning map

Use this map with the published core reader and supplementary workbooks. These are teaching themes, not ten separately sold courses. Local-law, language and general-studies requirements depend on your target notification; a mapping workbook is not a complete state-specific lecture series.

1. Prosecution role, recruitment and fair-trial ethics
  • Police, prosecutor, defence and court: separate functions
  • Ingredients, disclosure, adverse material and independent assessment
  • Read the notification before selecting a study path

Learning task: Prepare a one-page prosecution-role note and a recruitment-eligibility checklist.

2. BNS: offences, general principles and IPC comparison
  • Mental element, exceptions, private defence, abetment, conspiracy and attempt
  • Offences affecting the human body, women and children, property and public order
  • Old provision, new provision, substantive change and applicability

Learning task: Distinguish possible property offences from a fact pattern using an ingredient-to-proof chart.

3. BNSS: criminal procedure and CrPC comparison
  • FIR, investigation, arrest, remand, bail and police report
  • Cognizance, sanction, charges and sessions/magistrate trial routes
  • Judgment, appeals, revision and victim-related processes

Learning task: Build a case chronology and identify the court, procedural stage and next lawful step.

4. BSA: evidence and Indian Evidence Act comparison
  • Relevance, admissibility, weight, burdens and presumptions
  • Confessions, discovery, dying declarations and witness examination
  • Documentary/electronic records, authenticity and missing proof

Learning task: Review a CCTV extract without assuming that relevance alone proves admissibility or guilt.

5. Constitution and criminal-process safeguards
  • Articles 20, 21 and 22; fair procedure and personal liberty
  • Article 39A, legal aid, remedies and reasoned submissions
  • Custody safeguards and professional responsibilities

Learning task: Identify safeguards and explain a proportionate prosecution position on a custody application.

6. Special criminal laws: notification-led study
  • POCSO and NDPS application exercises in the existing reader
  • Scope-mapping workbook for Arms, SC/ST, Juvenile Justice, Dowry Prohibition and IT laws
  • Check special forums, ingredients, procedural requirements and statutory exceptions

Learning task: Map one notified special statute to a source-checked case-file checklist. A roadmap is not full chapter coverage of every special Act.

7. State laws and any notified civil-law additions
  • Exact local Acts and rules from the target notification
  • CPC and other civil subjects only where prescribed
  • Separate common-core topics from state-specific gaps

Learning task: Produce a syllabus-to-lesson map and mark unmapped topics instead of assuming they are covered.

8. General studies, current affairs and language
  • State/general studies only to the extent prescribed
  • Legal current-affairs source log with a verification date
  • Language, comprehension, translation and answer precision

Learning task: Translate a short prosecution submission and maintain a dated, source-linked current-affairs note.

9. Objective, descriptive and interview practice
  • Original MCQs and explained answers; error-log revision
  • Notification-specific previous-paper analysis and timed practice
  • Interview/viva only where required; no guaranteed human evaluation

Learning task: Attempt the original practice diagnostic and use its answer key and rubric. Original questions are not labelled official PYQs.

10. Integrated prosecution case-file laboratory
  • Witness/material chart, strongest defence point and missing evidence
  • Written prosecution submissions rather than a judge's order
  • Self-review, revision and a fresh timed attempt

Learning task: Submit a reasoned prosecution note on a fictional missing-mobile case, including adverse material and safeguards.

Old and new laws: study BNS / BNSS / BSA alongside IPC / CrPC / Indian Evidence Act where the syllabus or transition requires. Record the source, applicable date, old rule, new rule and actual change. Do not replace section numbers mechanically or assume every older judgment applies unchanged.

Included state study paths

Six planning paths in three paired LMS workbooks. Each asks you to record the authority, advertisement number, year, corrigenda, eligibility, syllabus, marks and selection stages. The portal links are official starting points—not confirmation of a currently open vacancy. No separate purchase is required for these workbooks.

Rajasthan · APO

Compare the exact notified law list and Hindi/English requirements. Keep preliminary and main-paper preparation separate only where those stages are notified.

In your LMS: State workbook 01 — Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh APO planning

Official source: RPSC (opens in a new tab)
Uttar Pradesh · APO

Record the relevant recruitment year, law/GS/language scope, local-law additions, stages and qualifying rules from that notice; do not copy Rajasthan's pattern.

In your LMS: State workbook 01 — Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh APO planning

Official source: UPPSC (opens in a new tab)
Delhi · APP

Identify the specific department and advertisement first; verify professional-experience conditions, syllabus and whether a recruitment test or interview is prescribed.

In your LMS: State workbook 02 — Delhi and Tamil Nadu APP planning

Official source: UPSC / recruiting department (opens in a new tab)
Tamil Nadu · APP

Check the notice's Tamil-language conditions, practice experience, old/new law coverage and any notified civil-law subjects. Never apply one year's conditions to every cycle.

In your LMS: State workbook 02 — Delhi and Tamil Nadu APP planning

Official source: TNPSC (opens in a new tab)
Haryana · ADA

Map the notified criminal and civil subjects, language and eligibility. An Attorney cadre should not automatically be treated as a criminal-law-only syllabus.

In your LMS: State workbook 03 — Haryana ADA and Madhya Pradesh ADPO planning

Official source: HPSC and Prosecution Department (opens in a new tab)
Madhya Pradesh · ADPO

Verify the exact post name, notified state laws, general studies, language and selection stages. Build the local-law supplement from the current notice, not from another state's list.

In your LMS: State workbook 03 — Haryana ADA and Madhya Pradesh ADPO planning

Official source: MPPSC (opens in a new tab)

How to study each topic

  1. Read: Read the prescribed bare-Act provision and record the applicable version.
  2. Understand: Explain the rule, its conditions and exceptions in plain language.
  3. Apply: Connect each legal ingredient to the fictional facts and available material.
  4. Verify: Check the original judgment or official source; do not rely on an AI summary alone.
  5. Practise: Attempt MCQs and a short written prosecution submission before opening answers.
  6. Review: Use the supplied answer explanations and rubric; record errors and unresolved issues.
  7. Revise: Return to the weak topic and repeat a timed exercise.

The supplementary diagnostic provides explained answers and a self-assessment rubric. Course Tutor may help you practise, but AI output must be source-checked. Personal faculty marking, live-class scheduling and interview sessions are not implied by a worksheet; confirm any separately advertised delivery arrangements with Admissions.

Original learning exercise · not an official past paper

Case-file laboratory: the missing mobile phone

A shopkeeper reports a missing phone. A short CCTV extract shows a visitor near the counter, but not the entire transaction. One witness says a similar-looking phone was later found. The visitor says the item was their own. Treat all of these as disputed fictional facts, not established proof.

Your task: make a chronology, identify possible legal ingredients, list the supporting and adverse material, identify missing proof and write a 250-word prosecution assessment. Do not draft a conviction order or invent facts to fill the gaps.

Open the model approach after attempting the exercise

Separate identity, possession, movement of the property, consent and alleged dishonest intention. Ask how ownership and the recovered item's identity are proved. Examine the complete available footage, its provenance and any applicable evidentiary requirements. A partial clip or a similar-looking object is not, by itself, a complete chain. Address the visitor's explanation and request lawful clarification rather than treating the allegation as guilt. Choose the applicable substantive, procedural and evidentiary law only after recording the relevant dates and legal transition.

Self-assessment, 20 marks: relevant issues 4; ingredient-to-material analysis 6; source/applicability checks 4; adverse material and fairness 4; clear structure 2. This is a teaching rubric, not an official marking scheme.

The supplementary LMS assessment includes an original 12-question diagnostic with explained answers, a written case exercise and a revision plan. Authenticate a past question against the recruiting authority's original paper before calling it a PYQ.

Eligibility and delivery: check before enrolling

Course participation is separate from recruitment eligibility. Check the recognised law qualification, age cut-off, relaxations, enrolment/practice experience, language and other conditions in the exact notification and corrigenda. Neither eligibility, selection, employment nor a professional qualification is guaranteed.

This is the common Foundation plus state-planning workbooks. It is not a claim that every special Act, every state syllabus or every recruitment-stage mock is fully covered. Match any gaps before committing to a particular examination.

The shared Judiciary introduction below is general orientation previously selected for related law programmes. It is not an APO/APP/ADA/ADPO-specific lecture or evidence that the two recruitment pathways are the same.

Programme questions

Is this a judicial-service or Civil Judge course?

No. This is a prosecution-service recruitment Foundation programme. Some legal subjects overlap, but the professional role and recruitment requirements differ.

Do I have to buy four separate courses?

No. APO, APP, ADA and ADPO are grouped in one Foundation programme. The state notification-mapping workbooks are included study paths, not additional checkout products.

Are all state syllabuses and exam stages the same?

No. The exact notification and corrigenda control eligibility, subjects, language, marking and stages. The state workbooks help identify gaps; they are not a claim of complete coverage of every current state notification.

Do we study IPC, CrPC and the Indian Evidence Act?

Yes, where needed for the target syllabus, older questions or legal transition. Study them alongside BNS, BNSS and BSA through a version-aware comparison, not merely a section-number replacement.

Does enrolment guarantee eligibility or selection?

No. Recruitment eligibility is separate from course participation. No appointment, result, professional registration or government affiliation is promised.

Are the practice questions official past papers?

The new diagnostic is original ZELVU practice with explanations and a self-assessment rubric. Only a question traced to an official paper may be described as an authenticated PYQ.

Primary-source desk: Ministry of Home Affairs: BNS, BNSS and BSA; Haryana Prosecution Department: departmental role. Use the recruiting-authority links above for notification-specific rules.

Learning-map edition: 4 October 2026. Portal links and historical examples are not vacancy alerts. Check subsequent amendments, judgments and recruitment notices directly.
