Welcome to Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) — Academic Support. We will study Dental Anatomy: Tooth Structure, Dentitions, Eruption and Occlusion, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. 5 years total · 4 academic years + 1 compulsory internship. Year-wise / professional-phase study plans, original foundation workshops, answered practice and available protected LMS readings. Sign in and use the study header to open your authorised course. Select this published lesson. Start Course Tutor with Auto audio on: it teaches continuously, answers a typed question, then resumes. Class I — the mesiobuccal cusp of the upper first molar occludes in the buccal groove of the lower first molar; any malocclusion lies elsewhere (crowding, spacing, rotations). Class II — the lower first molar is distal to the Class I relation. Division 1: upper incisors proclined with increased overjet. Example 3 — Angle's class. The mesiobuccal cusp of the upper first molar sits mesial to the buccal groove of the lower first molar by about a cusp width, and the upper incisors are proclined with a large overjet. The lower molar is distal to the upper, so it is Class II; proclined incisors with increased overjet make it Class II Division 1. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? Writing premolars in the primary formula. Fix: the primary dentition has only incisors, canines and molars. Thinking the first permanent molar replaces a primary tooth. Fix: permanent molars have no predecessors. Quoting exact eruption ages as fixed. Fix: give ranges and note individual variation. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. The mesiobuccal cusp of the upper first molar sits mesial to the buccal groove of the lower first molar by about a cusp width, and the upper incisors are proclined with a large overjet. Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. What is the cusp of Carabelli? Pause before the answer. The source answer is: An accessory cusp often found on the mesiopalatal surface of the maxillary first molar. Compare your reasoning as well as the result. If your response differs, return to the worked example and identify the step that needs correction. Explain the key idea in your own words, revisit any mistaken step, then continue to the next lesson. Use Stop to end Course Tutor when you finish.

How the study sessions work

Self-paced reading, tutor-guided explanation and independent practice. These are suggested learning sessions, not a published live faculty timetable. Teacher-led feedback is available only when separately confirmed for your programme.

  1. Read and recall: Read the selected unit, close the text, and state its main idea and two supporting reasons in your own words.
  2. Tutor-guided explanation: Ask Course Tutor to explain one specific difficulty and show a worked example. Check citations, calculations and legal/clinical statements against the primary source.
  3. Apply independently: Attempt a new problem, case analysis, code task or evidence-based essay before opening the model approach.
  4. Check and correct: Compare your result with the marking criteria. Keep the original answer, correction, reason for the error and one transfer question.
  5. Review and assess: Revisit the unit in the next study session and at the end of the study block. Combine short recall, application and a cumulative assignment.

Assessment and feedback

Use a short diagnostic, unit practice, a study-block assignment and a cumulative review. Each academic year page includes a worked foundation workshop and answered self-checks; internship sections instead explain institutional requirements.
