Welcome to CA Intermediate Complete. We will study Programme Reader 01 — The Accounting Framework and AS 1 Disclosure of Accounting Policies, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. Comprehensive CA Intermediate preparation. Sign in and use the study header to open your authorised course. Select this published lesson. Start Course Tutor with Auto audio on: it teaches continuously, answers a typed question, then resumes. AS 1 — accounting policies. Accounting policies are the specific accounting principles and methods of applying them adopted by the enterprise in preparing and presenting financial statements. Different policies may be acceptable for the same item: for example, inventory cost formulas (FIFO or weighted average), depreciation methods, or valuation of investments. Example 3 — going concern. A company's lender has recalled its entire loan and the directors have resolved to close the only factory within three months. The going concern assumption is no longer appropriate. Assets may need to be stated at realisable values, and the financial statements must disclose that they are not prepared on a going concern basis, with the reasons. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? 1. Disclosing the three fundamental assumptions as if they were policies. Correction: they are assumed; disclosure is required only when one is not followed. 2. Treating a change in estimate as a change in policy. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. The going concern assumption is no longer appropriate. Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. Name the three considerations that govern the selection of accounting policies under AS 1. Pause before the answer. The source answer is: Prudence, substance over form and materiality. Compare your reasoning as well as the result. If your response differs, return to the worked example and identify the step that needs correction. Explain the key idea in your own words, revisit any mistaken step, then continue to the next lesson. Use Stop to end Course Tutor when you finish.
