Welcome to Class 11 Applied Mathematics. We will study Numerical applications, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. Class 11 Applied Mathematics learning and exam support across Indian senior-secondary pathways, with original concept notes, practice, revision and tutor-led explanations. Sign in and use the study header to open your authorised course. Select this published lesson. Start Course Tutor with Auto audio on: it teaches continuously, answers a typed question, then resumes. Keep your board, session and medium selected. Modulo arithmetic begins with an ordinary division. When seventeen is divided by five the quotient is three and the remainder is two, and we write that seventeen is congruent to two, modulo five. The whole idea is that we agree to care only about the remainder. Second example, a mixture problem. Forty litres of a mixture contain ten per cent water. How much water must be added to make the water twenty per cent of the new mixture? Ten per cent of forty is four litres of water, so there are thirty six litres of milk. Let the water added be x. The new water is four plus x and the new total is forty plus x, and we want four plus x to be one fifth of forty plus x. Multiplying out, five times four plus x equals forty plus x, so twenty plus five x equals forty plus x, giving four x equals twenty and x equals five. Verify: water becomes nine litres out of forty five, and nine over forty five is one fifth, that is twenty per cent. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? Adding successive percentage changes is the commonest error. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. Let the water added be x. Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. What is the remainder when forty seven is divided by nine? Pause before the answer. The source answer is: two, since forty five is divisible by nine. Compare your reasoning as well as the result. If your response differs, return to the worked example and identify the step that needs correction. Explain the key idea in your own words, revisit any mistaken step, then continue to the next lesson. Use Stop to end Course Tutor when you finish.
