For RV 3.62.10 (Gayatri) the rishi is Vishvamitra; the whole third mandala is associated with Vishvamitra and his family. 2. Devatā — the deity or subject addressed. Example 1 — building the context card for RV 3.62.10. Step 1: Locate — Rigveda, mandala 3, sukta 62, verse 10. Step 2: Rishi — Vishvamitra (the third mandala is his family book). Step 3: Devata — Savitr, hence the name Savitri. Step 4: Chandas — gayatri: tat savitur vareṇyaṃ (8, counting vareṇiyam with its traditional restored syllable), bhargo devasya dhīmahi (8), dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt (8). Step 5: Viniyoga — in later ritual, daily sandhya worship and upanayana instruction. Result: The learner can now say where the verse sits, whom it addresses and why it is used, before looking at pronunciation. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? Calling every sacred formula "Vedic". Correction: check whether it is in a Samhita; many popular mantras come from Tantric, Puranic or later sources. Omitting rishi and devata.
