Welcome to Class 10 Complete Learning Programme — 6 Subject Package. We will study Algebra, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. 6 included subject courses: Class 10 English; Class 10 Hindi; Class 10 Mathematics; Class 10 Science; Class 10 Social Science; Class 10 Information Technology / AI Skills. Keep your board, session and medium selected. Pair of linear equations. Take a1x + b1y + c1 = 0 and a2x + b2y + c2 = 0. Compare the ratios of the coefficients. If a1/a2 is not equal to b1/b2, the lines intersect at one point: a unique solution. The pair is consistent. Example 4 — a linear pair as a word problem. The sum of two numbers is 27 and their difference is 5. Find them. Let the numbers be x and y. Then x + y = 27 and x − y = 5. Adding, 2x = 32, so x = 16; then y = 11. Check: 16 + 11 = 27 and 16 − 11 = 5. Correct. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? Sign slips in −b/a. When b is already negative, −b/a becomes positive. Write the substitution explicitly rather than doing it mentally. Forgetting to reject an inadmissible root. Ages, numbers of terms, lengths and numbers of items cannot be negative or fractional. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. Let the numbers be x and y. Then x + y = 27 and x − y = 5. Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. Is the pair 2x + 3y = 7 and 4x + 6y = 9 consistent? Pause before the answer. The source answer is: — 2/4 = 3/6 but 7 is not 9/2 in the same ratio, so the lines are parallel; it is inconsistent, with no solution.
