Welcome to Class 2 Complete Learning Programme — 5 Subject Package. We will study Addition and subtraction, work through an example, and practise using the course's learning material. 5 included subject courses: Class 2 English; Class 2 Hindi; Class 2 Mathematics; Class 2 Environmental Studies; Class 2 Foundational Digital Learning. Sign in and use the study header to open your authorised course. Select this published lesson. Start Course Tutor with Auto audio on: it teaches continuously, answers a typed question, then resumes. Keep your board, session and medium selected. In this lesson you will learn to add and subtract two digit and three digit numbers. You will start with the easy sums where nothing needs to be carried or borrowed. Then you will learn carrying, which is what you do when a column adds up to ten or more. Second example, adding with carrying. Add 47 and 38. Start with the ones. 7 plus 8 is 15. Fifteen is one ten and five ones. Write the 5 under the ones and carry the 1 to the top of the tens column. Now the tens. 4 plus 3 is 7, and add the carried 1 to make 8. Write 8 in the tens place. The answer is 85. Which mistake would change the reasoning in this example? The first mistake is writing the columns crookedly, so tens sit under ones. Fix it by using squared paper, or by drawing two straight lines down the page to make columns. The second mistake is starting from the left. Ask Course Tutor: please explain this step from the example. Write the 5 under the ones and carry the 1 to the top of the tens column. Now the tens. Why does it follow? Add what you tried, so the explanation addresses your difficulty. Now try the source practice. Work out 56 + 27. Pause before the answer. The source answer is: 83, because 6 plus 7 is 13, so write 3 and carry 1, then 5 plus 2 plus 1 is 8. Compare your reasoning as well as the result. If your response differs, return to the worked example and identify the step that needs correction. Explain the key idea in your own words, revisit any mistaken step, then continue to the next lesson. Use Stop to end Course Tutor when you finish.
